Presentation of the National Report on the Prevention of Domestic Violence in the Republic of Kazakhstan

A presentation was held in Astana of the National Report "On the Prevention of Domestic Violence in the Republic of Kazakhstan" , prepared by the Center for Research in Family and Gender Policy of KIOR on the order of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The report was presented on the launch day of the international campaign «16 Days Against Violence», aimed at eradicating violence against women and girls. The campaign takes place worldwide under the auspices of the United Nations from 25 November to 10 December, and is designed to raise awareness, support victims, and draw attention to the issue of violence. The Vice Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan delivered a welcoming address Yevgeniy Kochetov.

The national report comprises four analytical sections: an assessment of the current situation, an analysis of latent forms of violence, the effectiveness of existing measures, and a review of prospective preventive practices. The analysis presented is based on data from sociological surveys, official statistics, and expert assessments.

The event was attended by representatives of the National Commission on Women's Affairs and Family-Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, central and local government bodies, and the scientific and analytical community.

Chairman of the Board of KIOR Zhuldyzai Iskakova , opening the presentation, noted that the latest report of the KIOR on the situation in the field of domestic violence serves as an important instrument for analysing the situation and a foundation for developing further decisions to improve the system of protection against violence.

Zhuldyzai Iskakova also emphasized that ensuring the safety of citizens, particularly women and children, is one of the key priorities of state policy. The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev consistently strengthens measures to protect citizens and has adopted a number of measures aimed at reinforcing legal and institutional mechanisms.

Following the event, an expert discussion was held, during which Senior Lecturer of the Department of Social Work and Tourism at Esil University, Arystanova Zauresh, presented her proposals for the further improvement of state policy in the field of prevention of domestic violence.
