Stalking: Real and Digital Forms

An event dedicated to the topic of stalking and personal safety was held at the university. A presentation was delivered by group prefect Yermilov Vadim, who explained in an accessible manner what stalking is and why this issue is especially relevant today.

In his address, he noted that stalking is the systematic and obsessive persecution of an individual, violating their privacy and causing feelings of anxiety or fear. The primary forms of stalking were examined: real (offline), encompassing pursuit in public places, unexpected appearances, and obsessive phone calls; and digital (online) — messages via messaging applications, the creation of fake accounts, and surveillance through social networks. Separate attention was devoted to technological stalking associated with the use of spyware, concealed devices, and trackers.

The group's academic adviser, Zhanbusinova B.Kh., then took the floor and clarified the legal aspects of the issue. She emphasised that, depending on the severity of the perpetrator's actions, both administrative and criminal liability are possible under the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

At the conclusion of the event, students viewed thematic video clips that vividly illustrated the possible consequences of stalking and methods of self-protection. The meeting contributed to raising participants' legal literacy and fostering a responsible attitude toward issues of personal safety.
