A mentoring session was held at Esil University on the topic academic integrity , conducted by the Senior Lecturer of the Department of Economics and Marketing Gulden Baibusinova For fourth-year students of the "Economics" educational programme. The event was aimed at fostering in future specialists a culture of responsibility, conscientiousness, and respect for intellectual labour — the key qualities essential for a modern economist.
During the tutorial hour, Gulden Baibusinova elaborated in detail on the concept of academic integrity, its role in the educational process, and its influence on the professional trajectory of graduates. Students discussed the fundamental principles of academic ethics, including:
- Честность when completing written assignments, projects and research tasks;
- Independence and Responsibility for the results of one's own academic activities;
- Уважение respect for the work of other authors and mandatory citation of information sources;
- Справедливость and equal rules for all;
- Transparency in the presentation of data and research results.
Particular attention was paid to the types of academic integrity violations — plagiarism, data falsification, cheating, and manipulation of authorship. The academic adviser stressed that such violations not only damage a student's reputation but also create risks of unprofessional conduct in future employment.
Students actively participated in the discussion and cited examples from their academic practice. In conclusion, Gulden Baibusinova provided recommendations on maintaining academic integrity:
- Always verify the accuracy of citations and the formatting of references;
- to avoid plagiarism and to plan the completion of assignments in a timely manner;
- develop critical thinking and independent study skills;
- to seek consultation from instructors when controversial situations arise.
