Research Work of Students and Master's Students

Research and experimental research work within master's degree educational programs contributes to the formation and education of highly qualified specialists ready to perform various types of innovative activities.

The aim of the research work of master's students of the "Accounting and Auditing" and "Statistics" programs is:

• obtaining new results of significant importance for theory and practice in the system of accounting, audit, analysis, and statistics;
• mastering the methodology of scientific creativity, acquiring skills in conducting scientific research as part of a creative team;
• mastering theoretical and experimental methods of researching objects (processes, effects, phenomena, structures, projects) in the given subject area.

Topics for master's theses for the professional and scientific-pedagogical tracks are discussed and updated annually. The renewal rate of master's thesis topics is 30-40%.

Topics of master's theses for the educational program "Accounting and Auditing":

• scientific and pedagogical field to the study of issues concerning the harmonization of accounting, the concept of financial reporting under conditions of the globalization of the world economy, the methodology of researching IFRS within the system of unifying accounting practice in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the development of state audit in the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the theoretical and methodological aspects of organizing internal audit in companies.
• specializedof the program corresponds to the forward-looking issues of financial accounting in accordance with IFRS, the digitalization of accounting, management accounting, controlling, tax accounting, auditing in accordance with ISA, and consolidated reporting; it possesses scientific novelty and practical significance.

Topics of master's theses for the «Statistics» educational program:

- scientific and pedagogical field aimed atthe development and application of modern statistical methods for solving relevant theoretical and practical problems in the field of education and science, with emphasis onresearch activity, formation scientifically grounded recommendations, usemodern information technologiesfor data analysis, as well as preparing the master's student for independently conducting research and teaching activities, taking into accountworldview, civic, and professional competenciesin the field of statistics.

- of the specialized field aimed at application of advanced statistical methods (big data analysis, modeling, econometrics, machine learning) for solving topical problems in economics, finance, marketing, social sciences, and other fields, with the aim of obtaining scientifically grounded conclusions and recommendations, development research activity competencies and developing skills for working with real data to make management decisions.

       The development of topics for master's theses is based on the following aspects: the State Compulsory Education Standard (GOSO); the program of basic and major disciplines; the department's research direction and research theme; the research direction of the faculty members; and the relevance of each topic.

Supervision of master's students is distributed according to teaching workload. All academic supervisors are specialists in the relevant field, holding Doctor and Candidate of Economic Sciences degrees. The academic supervisors meet the qualification requirements set for educational activities.

Research work by master's students is one of the most important means of improving the quality of training specialists with postgraduate education who are capable of creatively applying the achievements of scientific and technological progress in practice and, consequently, quickly adapting to the modern conditions of economic development.

The educational programs "Accounting and Auditing" and "Statistics" include research training, comprising the master's student's mastery of the methodology for conducting all stages of research work (Master's Research Work and Master's Experimental Research Work) - from setting the research objective to preparing articles, applications for an invention patent, a grant, participation in a scientific works competition, etc., up to writing a master's thesis (project). During the research work over the academic year, master's students of the profile and scientific-pedagogical tracks submit reports on Master's Experimental Research Work and Master's Research Work, including the completion of the master's project. The report presents a list of completed works, including article publications, participation in scientific competitions and projects, and activities to improve the research topic.

On October 29, 2025, as part of the Department of Accounting and Auditing Week, master's students participated in the scientific seminar "The Current State of Accounting and Auditing in the Context of Digitalization." Current problems, trends, and prospects for the development of accounting and auditing in the context of the digital transformation of the economy were discussed, along with the introduction of artificial intelligence, the automation of big data in accounting and analytical activities, and changes in the Tax legislation of 2026.

A research internship is an activity for acquiring experience in scientific work at scientific organizations and/or organizations in the relevant industries or fields of activity in order to form and consolidate professional knowledge, skills, and abilities with regard to innovative technologies used to obtain qualifications in educationalthe programs 'Accounting and Auditing' and 'Statistics'.

In the 2024-2025 academic year, a 1st-year master's student of the applied track (Törebek B.) completed a research internship at AziyaMetkom LLP during 27.05–09.06.24. A 1st-year master's student of the applied track (Skiba A.) completed a research internship at Vashi Okna Astana LLP during 21.04–04.05.25.

First-year master's students of the educational program "Accounting and Auditing" in the scientific-pedagogical track (Amirov T., Iskakov R., Shapai M.) completed a foreign research internship in online format, according to the academic schedule, from May 26 to June 8, 2025, at Astrakhan State University, Russia.

For the 2025-2026 academic year, a research internship is planned in accordance with the academic calendar for first-year students of the scientific and pedagogical track of the "Statistics" educational program (May 27 - June 7, 2026) at Astrakhan State University, Russia, and for students of the specialized track of the "Statistics" educational program (April 20 - May 3, 2026) at the State Institution "Department of the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the City of Almaty."

Every year, master's students of the Department of Accounting and Auditing publish in collections of scientific conferences and journals of the KOKSNVO. Based on the results of scientific research, master's students submit Implementation Certificates.

Internship of master's students of the educational program "Accounting and Audit". On January 15-21, 2022, first-year master's students of the educational program "Accounting and Audit" of the scientific-pedagogical track, Soltanov Yernar and Shinabekova Asiya, completed a foreign research internship under the program "Innovative Activity of Business Entities in the Process of Digital Transformation of the Economy" at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, city of Grodno, Belarus. Leading teachers Department of Finance and Accounting Faculty of Economics and Management organized training seminars and master classes. Special attention was paid to the development of practice-oriented knowledge among students. The internship participants took part in a meeting of the Coordination Council of representatives of personnel-ordering organizations, in the work of the round table "A Cluster Approach to the Development of Economic Education," and visited leading enterprises of the regional center.
