Department of Finance

The Department of Finance holds a leading position in the university in terms of student intake, has passed international accreditation, and holds high ratings from the FIBAA, IQAA (NAAR), IAAR (NAOKO), the "Atameken" National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, and others. The department provides a continuous educational cycle for students — bachelor's, master's, and doctoral studies.

The main goal of the department is to train highly educated, competitive specialists in the financial sphere in the areas of public finance and financial management, banking and insurance business, and investment activity.

The department is noted for the applied nature of its training: there is a branch of the department at the bank Freedom Finance JSC, a specialized classroom for thesis design named after Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Economics, Professor Seitkasimov G.S., and the laboratory "Laboratory of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan". The department cooperates with representatives of the financial and banking sector: the branch of the National Bank in Astana, the city department of state revenues of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the financial bodies of the city of Astana, second-tier banks, insurance companies, and investment funds.

International cooperation is well developed at the department. A double-degree education program is being implemented (an agreement with Kangnam University in South Korea, the European University in Switzerland) and with Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (Belarus). There are cooperation agreements with the University of Valladolid (Spain), Wuhan University (China), the Central Bohemian University in Prague (Czech Republic), the Azerbaijan State University of Economics in Baku, and others, to which students travel under the academic mobility program, and master's students undertake research internships.

Graduates of the Department of Finance are in demand on the labor market. Thus, graduates of the Department of Finance work in government financial bodies (ministries, committees, and agencies), departments and administrations of state revenue and the treasury, national companies, branches of the National Bank, second-tier banks, credit organizations, insurance companies, investment funds, and others. The employment rate exceeds 80%. Our graduates maintain ties and cooperate with the department.

The department is headed by Lukpanova Zhanar Oralkhanovna, Candidate of Economic Sciences and Associate Professor - recipient of a research grant from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2015-2017, and author of the textbooks and study guides "Theory of Finance," "Introduction to Finance," "Taxes and Taxation," "Investment Project Planning," and others.

The training and graduation of finance specialists is provided by faculty members with a high level of qualification (these are doctors and candidates of economic sciences, and masters in the field of study), with a degree-holding rate of more than 60%. The department's faculty members continuously improve their qualifications, participate in grant-funded scientific projects, write monographs, produce textbooks and study guides on financial disciplines, and publish scientific articles in journals with a non-zero impact factor (Thomson Reuters, Scopus, RSCI). In class, the department's teachers apply innovative and interactive teaching methods, organize the Finance Department week, and hold conferences, debates, business games, contests, and quizzes for students. Students go on excursions to the National Bank, tax authorities, and second-tier banks.
