Faculty of the Department of Social Work and Tourism Took Part in the Scientific and Practical Conference ‘Protection of Human Rights in Kazakhstan: Challenges and Prospects’ Marking the Day of the Adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

At the opening of the scientific and practical conference and serving as conference moderator was Lastayev Artur Yermekovich, Ombudsman for Human Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Key guests of the conference also included: Katarzyna Wawernia, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan; Elvira Abilkhasimovna Azimova, Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Aleshka Simkic, Ambassador of the European Union to Kazakhstan; and Volker Frobarth, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Kazakhstan. The meeting addressed issues of preventing torture and ill-treatment, the serving of sentences by women, the prevention of sexual violence and gender-based violence in closed institutions, combating discrimination, medical care for persons held in closed social and criminal justice institutions, as well as the implementation of international standards into national legislation.
