At Esil University among Second-year students of the Statistics educational programme (Kazakh-language group) participated in an open lesson on the topic "The World of Statistics" in the format of a business game. The lesson was organised by instructors of the Accounting and Audit Department — Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Kazhmukhametova A.A. and Master's degree holder, Senior Lecturer Askarova T.M.
The primary objective of the lesson was to develop students' practical skills in collecting, processing, and analysing statistical data, as well as to apply key concepts — the arithmetic mean, the median, and the mode. Particular attention was devoted to developing critical thinking and teamwork skills.
The class began with a welcome and goal-setting session, after which students were divided into teams to participate in a business game. During the first stage, participants conducted a mini-survey among learners, identifying, for example, favourite subjects, types of sport, and sleep duration.
In the second phase, the teams processed the collected data, compiling tables and presenting results in the form of charts. Students then demonstrated a creative approach by preparing videos and puzzles reflecting the results of their research.
In the concluding part, each team presented the results of its work, providing substantiated explanations of the conclusions reached. Assessment was conducted according to a number of criteria, including the accuracy of calculations, the precision of data presentation, the quality of analysis, teamwork, and the defence of the project. Based on the outcomes of the session, the best teams were identified in the nominations "Best Analyst," "Best Research," and "Most Creative Team."
