Professor of the Department of LAW, D.U. Balgimbekov, and Associate Professor of the Department of LAW, T.Z. Aymanganbetov, within the framework of the principle of practice-oriented education and the student preparation programme, visited the specialised institution «Children's Village Astana SOS», which focuses on family-type upbringing for orphaned children and children without parental care, located at Ablai Khan Avenue, 40, Astana, and conducted a joint mentoring session.
During the event, Deputy Director for the Prevention of Social Orphanhood Shubina M.Ya. and social workers Dauletkhozhanpova B.K. and Beksultanova D.B. conducted explanatory sessions with students of groups B-YuRP 24/1-2R, B-YuRP 24/1R, B-YuRP 25/23, B-K-25/23K, and B-K-25/22K on the topic: "Guardianship and Custody of Children."
They reported that the Non-State Educational Institution SOS Children's Village in Astana was established in 2000 by the Corporate Foundation "SOS Children's Villages of Kazakhstan." The Centre operates in three areas.
First, the protection of children from abuse. The Centre ensures a safe environment for children in all projects by implementing child protection standards at all levels of our work.
Secondly, family strengthening programmes. The Centre assists families in overcoming difficult life situations and ensuring children receive the necessary care and attention. As a result, children are not separated from their birth parents.
Third, alternative care. The Centre provides children with a safe home, loving families, and hope for the future through our Children's Villages and Youth Care projects.
Over the past twenty-five years, more than 200 children and young people have resided in and received educational services from the SOS Children's Village Astana. The majority of graduates today lead independent lives, have professions, and are raising their own families. Currently, nearly 90 children and young people are living under the care of the Village. According to representatives of the Centre, particular emphasis in the Village's activities is placed on youth development and preparation for independent living. These are not only children who have lost their parents but also children from families experiencing life difficulties.
