Esil University Discussed the Digital Transformation of the Banking Sector

Esil University hosted an international roundtable dedicated to the 55th anniversary of Serik Bikhanovich Makish, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Academician of KazNAEN, and member of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan. The main topic of discussion was "The Banking System of the Republic of Kazakhstan: New Regulatory Mechanisms and Digital Transformation."

The event was held in a hybrid format, bringing together participants in person and online via Zoom. Representatives of leading universities of Kazakhstan and the CIS countries, experts of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan, heads of financial organisations, and researchers in the fields of economics and digital technologies joined the dialogue.

During the session, experts discussed the current challenges of the banking sector, including the transition to digital financial instruments, the improvement of regulatory mechanisms, integration into global financial processes, and the development of sustainable banking service models.

Separate reports were devoted to digital solutions in the banking sector and the prospects for their implementation in Kazakhstan; improving the financial literacy of the population; cross-border payments and their role in international integration; and the development of Islamic finance as one of the relevant areas of diversification of banking services.

As part of the programme, a ceremonial presentation of the anniversary honouree took place, along with the presentation of a new textbook, "The Financial System of the Republic of Kazakhstan," prepared by Serik Bikhanovich.

The event concluded with a substantive discussion during which participants exchanged views and proposals regarding the further development of the financial sector.
