A Guest Seminar Session at the Department of Social and Humanitarian Sciences

At a seminar organised by Russian language instructors from the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines at Esil University, first-year students of the Business and Law and Legal Support for Economic Security programmes studied the fundamentals of academic peer review — both in theory and in practice.

The guest of the seminar session was Aman Zhumsaqbayev, PhD and Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Philology at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The instructor explained in detail to students the key points of the review genre required for recommending a dissertation for public defence. An important emphasis was placed on the observation that bachelor's students must obtain reviews of their thesis works, which constitutes a necessary component of the academic process.

A. Zhumsakbayev paid particular attention to the significance of developing skills in analysing various genres of academic writing style for the successful composition of reviews. The seminar conducted with the invited lecturer took place in a question-and-answer format, which allowed students to participate actively and demonstrate interest in a topic new to them.

Faculty members and students expressed their gratitude to A. Zhumsaqbayev for an informative and engaging session, noting the significance of the knowledge gained for future academic pursuits.
