A Round Table on the Development of Social Work and the Protection of Human Rights in Kazakhstan

With the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republican Public Association "National Alliance of Professional Social Workers," the Centre for Civil Initiatives Support, the Department of Sociology of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, a round table was held on the topic: "Institutionalisation of Professional Social Work as an Instrument of Advocacy and the Expansion of Human Rights in the Field of Labour Protection and Trade Union Activity, Freedom of Peaceful Assembly (Association), and Human Rights with Respect to Migrants and Individuals."

The event was held in a hybrid format: online and offline. At the invitation of the organizers, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Social Work and Tourism, Zhakupova G.Kh., who is the founder of the Republican Public Association "National Alliance of Professional Social Workers," participated in the event.

A Round Table on the Development of Social Work and the Protection of Human Rights in Kazakhstan

Objective of the Round Table: To discuss the results of analytical work on current legislation and recommendations of international organizations in the fields of occupational health and safety and trade union activities, freedom of peaceful assembly (association), and human rights with respect to migrants and individuals.

At this event, participants discussed further plans for the development of social work, the necessity of introducing amendments to regulatory and legislative acts, and the significance of the profession in contemporary society as a means of navigating the social protection system. Social workers contribute to the formation of a responsible, active, and cohesive society.
