Round Table ‘The Accountant of the Future: New Skills and Challenges of the Times’ at Esil University

As part of the "Accounting and Audit" Department Week, an online round table was held on the topic "The Accountant of the Future: New Skills and Challenges of the Times," chaired by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor of Esil University Murat Kapbarovich Aliyev.

Leading scholars and practitioners of Kazakhstan participated in the round table: • Akan Arystan — Vice-President and Executive Director of the Chamber of Auditors of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Member of the Board of the PSAD, Member of the Public Council under the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan; • Mirzhakyрova Sedep Toktamuratovna — Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Chairperson of the Sectoral Council for the "Financial and Economic Activity" direction under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan; • Tazhibayev Serik Dyusenaliyevich — Doctor of Economics, Professor of the International Taraz Innovation Institute named after Sherkhan Murtaza; • Vera Leonidovna Nazarova — Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Accounting and Statistics at the Almaty University of Humanities and Economics.

The faculty members of the "Accounting and Audit" and "Economics" departments, as well as students of Esil University, also participated in the discussion.

Experts discussed which competencies will be central for accountants and financial specialists in the context of digitalization and economic transformation. It was noted that a modern accountant must not only master classical accounting tools but also possess data analysis skills, work with digital platforms, and understand the principles of sustainable development.

Following the round table, it was emphasised that the ability to work with big data, process automation, cybersecurity, and environmental reporting are becoming the most critical professional competencies. The continuous updating of knowledge and the development of digital skills will help specialists to adapt effectively to changes and ensure the sustainable development of companies.
